Long Island Master Gardeners 2018 Calendar of
Events, Meetings, and Activities
LIMG BOOKCASE: The LIMG bookcase is now located at the Brookhaven Ecology Center main foyer. Bring in your old gardening books. Members can borrow books from the bookcase and return them when finish reading them.
November 21, 2018, meeting at the Brookhaven Ecology Center, Holtsville.
Our schedule speaker, Marie Camenares, cannot make this meeting but we have something we all can participate in and have a new holiday decoration.
Project: Making holiday decorations out of discarded stair posts.
After a short general meeting, we will have a craft project using reclaimed stair posts and holiday decorations. Eight examples of the finished crafts will be raffled off at our November meeting.
See photos on the LIMG website at: http://www.limastergardener.com/craft_project.html
We would like to get a head count for who would like to participate in this project after our general meeting. If you are interested, please contact Bob Van Dyke at firstname.lastname@example.org or 631-859-0405, so we can prep enough posts for everyone!
Lorraine Leacock supplied the posts and made the samples with Nancy Lynch, and Bob and Kathy Van Dyke. LIMG will provide the basic supplies, including the posts and bases, paint, markers, glue and gloves for the 11/21/18 project. You can supply your own decorations and craft items. Wool socks make good hats, and fabric scraps, ribbons, or felt make good snowman scarves. Or choose from the ribbons, buttons, etc. that we will bring to the November meeting.
Island Harvest Food Drive
At this meeting members will have the opportunity to donate to the annual LIMG Island Harvest Food Drive. With all the prosperity on Long Island we see packed restaurants, overflowing grocery store shopping carts and so much more, but there are thousands of Long Islanders who do not have enough to feed their children. The need is great. Island Harvest is the largest local organization dealing with this ongoing crisis. We all can do our part. Please bring non-perishable food items, not in glass or other breakable containers, to this meeting. All your food donations will be delivered to the Island Harvest Food Drive collection centers.
